I have always wanted to plant sunflower. Today, I did a bit of research on the net and plant a few pots. Hope I will have sunflower in 4 months. What is sunflower? The sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is an annual plant in the family Asteraceae and native to the Americas, with a large flowering head. The stem can grow as high as 3 metres, and the flower head can reach 30 cm in diameter with the "large" seeds. How to grow?

You know you're Australian if...

Got this email today from one of my friends today. You know the meaning of the word 'girt'. You believe that stubbies can be either drunk or worn. You think it's normal to have a leader called Kevin. You waddle when you walk due to the 53 expired petrol discount vouchers stuffed in your wallet or purse. You've made a bong out of your garden hose rather than use it for something illegal such as watering the garden. You believe it is appropriate to put a rubber in your son's pencil case when he first attends school. When you hear that an American 'roots for his team' you wonder how often and with whom. You understand that the phrase 'a group of women wearing black thongs' refers to footwear and may be less alluring than it sounds. You pronounce Melbourne as 'Mel-bin'. You pronounce Penrith as 'Pen-riff'.

Rat Race: Are you in middle class?

There are many factors that can define the middle class of a society, such as money, education, professional or employment status, home ownership, or culture. By all means, MONEY is the primary factor! How much you earn, how much you have in the bank or under your bed determine your social class. It's sad, but it's true. We all try to deny this reality. Good news. Various statistics support the notion that the middle class is shrinking. Portions of both Upper class and lower class are growing; the middle class is shrinking. The bell shape is going to be upside down. Now, the question is whether you will climb up to upper class or fall down to the lower class.

Should public transportation system be government-owned?

Down under, living in Melbourne, Australia, we have one of the best transportation system. I took trains daily between my home and office. It takes me 30 minutes only; comparing to driving, it may be up to an hour. Metro is now the company maintaining the system. Is it worth to have a private company handling our public system? Now, we spent up to 3 (?) billion for Myki (contracted for 10 years). Won't it be cheaper to make the public system for free? Let's do some calculation: Fare evasion is 13%; Metro says they lose 50 millions out on that. It means around 400 millions per year. From VAGO, profit is around 30% of revenue. It comes to 270 millions cost per year.
