Yakult - Factory Tour

Yakult is a fermented milk drink that contains a very high concentration of a unique, beneficial bacterium called Lactobacillus casei Shirota strain. This bacteria was named after Dr Shirota and is exclusive to Yakult.

Each one of us has around 100 trillion bacteria in our intestines. Some of these are beneficial and some are potentially harmful. To work efficiently our digestive system needs a healthy balance where the number of beneficial bacteria outnumber those that are potentially harmful.

The unique beneficial bacteria in Yakult are strong enough to survive the journey through the gastric juices to reach the small intestine alive, where they help maintain an ideal balance of beneficial bacteria. Each 65ml bottle contains 6.5 billion of these highly acid resistant bacteria,

Costco is coming to Ringwood. Finally!

Construction of the 14,500 square-metre warehouse at the old Ringwood market site is expected to start within months and be completed by late 2013.

The store will be only the second to open in Melbourne since the retail giant entered the Australian market in 2009, with a warehouse store at Docklands.

The warehouse store, to be built on the corner of Bond and Market streets, is expected to employ 400 workers and have 3600 product lines. The site will also include two levels of parking with almost 1000 car parks.

Kids Health Info - Fever

  • Fever is when the temperature of the body rises to above 38°C. A normal temperature range for a child is usually up to 38°C.
  • Fever is usually a sign of infection in the body. Fever is often caused by a virus and sometimes by bacteria. Viral infections are far more common and do not need antibiotics. Antibiotics do not cure viruses. Bacterial infections are treated with antibiotics.
  • A high fever does not necessarily mean your child has a serious illness. The fever seen in common childhood infections is not harmful, and in fact it helps the body's immune system fight off the infection.
  • There is no advantage to lowering your child's fever except for comfort.
  • Treat your child by making them more comfortable; give clear fluids (eg. water, diluted fruit juice) and paracetamol if the fever is making your child miserable.
  • Fever is a way the body fights infection, and your child's temperature will return to normal when the infection has completely gone.
  • Fever is not known to cause damage to the brain or other organs.

Kids Health Info - Head Injury

Children have many bangs to the head and it can be difficult to tell whether they are serious or not. If your child has received an injury to the head, you should see a doctor.
A head injury is any knock to the head that causes lumps, bruises, cuts or more severe injuries to your child's head. Many head injuries are not serious and simply result on a bump or bruise. Occasionally head injuries can result in damage to the brain.

Seek medical help immediately if:

  • Your child has had a hard bang to the head, such as falling off something high or from a car accident.
  • Your child losses consciousness.
  • Your child seems unwell and vomits several times after.

Signs and symptoms

The symptoms of head injuries are used to determine how serious it is. Head injuries can be classified into minor, moderate or serious.

After Hours GP Melbourne

After Hours GP is a doctor home visit service provided by the Australian Locum Medical Service to residents of metropolitan Melbourne and Perth.

All patients can access this after hours home visiting medical service if their postcode falls within our coverage area.

This house call service is bulk-billed* and there are no out of pocket costs if you are registered with Medicare or Veterans Affairs.

If medical attention is required after hours and it's not an emergency, patients or their carers may ring our call centre and request a Doctor to make a house call. Phone calls are triaged by suitably qualified and experienced staff and relayed to our doctors in the field.

Patients are telephoned by the treating doctor prior to attendance and reassured that they will be consulted in a medically appropriate timeframe.

Patients may be provided with valuable self care management advice prior to the doctor’s actual arrival and are appropriately referred to emergency services if required.

A detailed treatment report of each consultation may be forwarded to the patient’s
regular General Practitioner.

Higgues Nappies Price Hike

Have you noticed that size of Higgues bulk-size package was reduced?  I think only newborn and infant package was not changed.  The rest was reduced by around 10%.

For example, toddler package was 81 nappies, now 72 nappies.  This effectively increases the Huggies price by around 10%.  Check out yourself at Woolies or Coles.

Further, the price at Costco was increased as well.  This price move makes Aldi's Mamia much attractive than before.  I am shifting over to Mamia now.

See here for price details.
